Hi everyone, I missed our Tuesday night fun terribly (!). However, I think that Andy's decision to shut the Magic Voices choirs down early was absolutely the right call (and it was mirrored by the governements decision to advise all citizens to stay away from bars, clubs and social gatherings from Monday night). Evidently, in the short term this will mean that our concert on Fri 3 April will be cancelled. My thanks go to Jo, for all her help in getting this organised in the firstplace (although it is no longer going ahead!) and she is confident that we will be able to reschedule relatively easily. So we will aim to go ahead with that concert ASAP when we return to normality! Do take care of yourselves and others over the next few weeks. I am aware that a number of our chapel choir community may be self-isolating for the foreseeable future so I think it's important to look after your mental wellbeing (as well as your physical). Do join the Magic Voices Chapel En Le Frith Facebook page if you are not already a member (https://www.facebook.com/groups/289475595205033/). Share fun stories and musical tales, take videos of yourself singing and generally keep each other amused! I know that Andy is also planning to post several videos for Magic Voices members to help keep spirits up! If you need a friend then feel free to contact me for a chat, text or general catch up - I'm always happy to talk: mob: 07765 970618 email: greg@magicvoices.co.uk Or, I can also be contacted via the facebook page and messenger. Keep calm and stay safe! Kind regards, Greg x   View less

Dear all, I hope that you are keeping safe and well? I'm sure that you will have seen Andy's email/message from earlier today and I know that he is doing his very best to follow government guidelines and to take care of the safety and wellbeing of all our Magic Voices members at this time. Evidently, the government has been considering when the correct time is to close schools, so I would assume that we will be one of the earlier Magic Voices choirs to close our doors and ride out the pandemic in the absence of a rehearsal venue (there are a handful of choirs who rehearse at school halls). However, it is worth noting that this is complete speculation from me (!). Evidently, there may be a few things for us to to discuss (any reheasal worries, concert viability, etc); however, it's always much easier to do this in person so let's please set aside a little time in our rehearsal on Tuesday (March 17) to discuss matters. With regard to the rehearsal, my current plan is to run the entire set/repertoire list for our upcoming concert on April 3rd. I will bring my portable recording device and record all the songs. That could be useful for a couple of reasons: 1, if the concert goes ahead as planned then we can use the recordings to evaluate parts and sections and improve them over the next few weeks. 2; if the concert got postponed amid current concerns then at least we have a nice memento to take away from the Easter term! For reference, the songs that we will be running are: Fernando 3:55 Beauty and the Beast 3:41 Bring Him Home 3:00 Moon River 2:48 Let the River Run 3:17 Where Lost Things Go 2:50 A Million Dreams 4:33 Bridge Over Troubled Water 3:32 True Colours 3:45 Africa 3:50 Mambo Sway 4:13 Les Mis Medley 8:34 Love is a Losing Game (Mo solo) 2:48 Sorry for the long message. See you Tuesday! Greg   View less

Dear all, For the moment, keeping calm (!?) and carrying on seems to be the order of the day. So for Monday, can we: Finish learning Where Lost Things Go. I do get the vague impression this isn’t everyone’s favourite number (I’m very sensitive to your incredibly subtle signs!) - however I think it’s important to make sure we’ve ‘got it’ and could theoretically perform it at the drop of a hat if we wanted to, before we put it away in the cupboard. A good sing-through of Daydream Believer would be good at some point - again, just to make sure it hasn’t all gone in one ear and out the other since we last did it. Similarly, the West Side Story medley - it’s had a couple of weeks off, let’s make sure it doesn’t disappear. But I mostly want to start looking at the Sound Of Music medley. Please print and bring with you and we’ll start learning it. It’s on the website - there are two items with a Sound Of Music title - the one we want is called Sound Of Music (Main Medley). It starts with the song My Favourite Things - the first line of lyrics you should see is, ‘Raindrops On Roses … ‘ (The other SOM item is The Prayer - ultimately we learn that as well and bolt it on to the front of the Main Medley - but I want to start with the Main Medley). Hope that’s clear - look forward to seeing you on Monday evening. With very best wishes as always, SImon ——   View less
